Keyser family papers

Abstract

Papers produced and collected by the Keyser family of Baltimore, Maryland. The Keysers accumulated wealth in the 19th and 20th centuries through mercantile businesses, inheritance, and a variety of industries, including the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, copper and iron works, and investments in land and real estate. They used some of this wealth to finance Baltimore’s public and private institutions, including Johns Hopkins University.

Henry James, Jr. (born in New York, New York on April 15, 1843) was an Anglo-American writer who spent the bulk of his career in Britain. He is regarded as one of the key figures of 19th-century literary realism. This collection consists primarily of 22 letters written by Henry James, Jr. to friends and acquaintances, and the corrected typescript of Max Beerbohm’s short story “The Guerdon,” a 1916 parody of James’ late writing style.
